Description:

Native American, British Columbia, Canada, Nuu-chah-nulth peoples (Nootka), ca. 1940s CE, carved by Harvey Williams (active mid 20th century), son of famous carver Ray Williams. A dramatic, hand-carved totem pole made by a member of a family renowned for their woodwork. The totem depicts a standing eagle with a mask-like face on its torso; its wings extend outward from its body and its legs are crouched, as if ready to dance or fly. The eagle stands atop a killer whale who has one fin raised and a fox-faced mask on its tail. The level of detail in the carving as well as the beautiful patina it has attained make this an excellent example of the Pacific Northwest style. Size: 13.75" W x 12.2" H (34.9 cm x 31 cm)
