A sweet, vintage, hand-carved and hand-painted wooden santo depicting Saint Francis of Assisi, one of the most popular saints in the Catholic canon, known for his love of animals and nature and his miraculous acts, in his traditional brown habit adorned with red and white abstract botanical motifs, with a bird perched upon each shoulder and an adorable cat sitting by his feet. The arm was carved separately and fitted to the body via wooden pegs. A lovely example. Size: 8.25" H (21 cm)
