Description:

Central Asia, northeastern India / Burma, Naga people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An interesting headhunter's necklace with a central brass pendant in the form of a tall goblet with a forked foot. Atop the goblet are a trio of abstract human 'heads' that represent three kills from this particular hunter. The braided cord strand is adorned with a pair of spiraling brass beads as well as twenty red-dyed beads carved from the bones of a human leg or arm bone, and a red cloth tassel projects from the outermost ear of each outer pendant head. A wearable example of macabre artistry from the Naga! Size (necklace): 21.25" L (54 cm); (pendant): 2.1" W x 4.375" H (5.3 cm x 11.1 cm).
