Description:

East Asia, Japan, ca. 20th century CE. A beautifully preserved woven basket of bamboo fibers with ring handles. The basket sits on a small foot and the globular body displays intricate interlacing woven strips. Below the lip are two flanking ring handles. Bamboo weaving, known as "takeami" has been a traditional Japanese art for centuries. Not only do artisans weave the baskets, they must harvest, cut, and dye the bamboo strips before creating the piece. A basket of this size can take weeks or even months to create! Size: 8.59" W x 6.75" H (21.8 cm x 17.1 cm)
