Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A lovely gathering of a ceremonial kris sword along with two hand-carved buffalo bone kris handles. Each handle has a stocky body wrapped with tightly-braided plant fiber strands as well as a lateral projection on one side, and each depicts an abstract mythological creature with flowing incised details. The forged-iron kris has a light wavy profile with a protruding hand guard, and a hemispherical brass spacer disc separates the blade from the carved wooden handle in the form of an abstract bird. The three-part wooden sheath consists of a guard protector, a blade housing, and a petite lower bulb. A fine ensemble from Indonesia! Size (w/ sheath): 5.375" W x 16.375" H (13.7 cm x 41.6 cm); length of blade: 13.8" L (35.1 cm).
