Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden baby carrier, decorated with a ring of openwork male figures, their eyes formed from round shell discs. This type of baby carrier, known as a benning, is like a chair without legs, made to be supported on the back of the mother via the woven straps which are present here. Size: 15.5" W x 16.95" H (39.4 cm x 43.1 cm)
