Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early 20th century CE. A fine example of a kris (or keris), a type of traditional Indonesian sword. The blade is comprised of forged-iron and has a gorgeous set of tooled striations running the length of the straight blade. A small hemispherical copper guard separates the blade from the carved, dark-brown wooden handle, and is inlaid with eight faceted cubic zirconia stones. The sheath consists of an interior wooden housing, hand-carved from a light, caramel-hued hard wood, with a wide blade guard and a small central ridge. The sheath jacket is a finely-hammered silver-copper alloy which displays a motif of scrawling vines surrounded by segmented borders. Size: 20.75" W x 6.25" H (52.7 cm x 15.9 cm); size of blade: 14.5" H (36.8 cm).
