South Asia, India, ca. mid 20th century. A hand-embroidered textile panel presenting a lively iconographic and decorative program stitched in a perfectly symmetrical composition. Flora, fauna, and dancing couples are delineated in hues of violet, magenta, vermilion, fuchsia, spring green, yellow, and white against a black ground with an orange border adorned with yellow, white, and tangerine stylized cross and leaf-like motifs. Circular mirror pieces further embellish the piece. Size: 51.375" L x 17.8" W (130.5 cm x 45.2 cm)
