Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A group of fourteen cast bronze bracelets, most simple rings, some full rings, some with an intended opening. Two are multiple spiraled rings stacked on top of each other, and one has a flattened band. Half of them are small enough that they may be for adolescents or even children. Also a cast bronze socketed axe head with a lunate blade, of a diminutive, probably votive form. Size of largest bracelet: 3.5" W (8.9 cm); size of axe head: 1.6" W x 2.4" H (4.1 cm x 6.1 cm)

Provenance: private Rochester, Michigan, USA collection acquired before 2000
