Description:

West Africa, northern Cameroon, Kirdi people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. An interesting cache-sex or modesty apron worn by Kirdi girls that is composed of vertical iron slats arranged in a triangular formation that narrows along the base. Above the panel is an iron suspension bow adorned with a pair of turquoise-hued glass beads on either side. A woven-fiber belt is covered in red-brown earthen pigment and suspends the modesty panel from a twisted fiber cord. Size: 7.7" W x 7" H (19.6 cm x 17.8 cm)
