South America, Bolivia / Argentina, ca. early 20th century CE. A handsome gaucho cowboy tirador belt comprised of broad leather strap with a large silver rastra (medallion), silver Bolivian coins, and nickel brass buckles. Gauchos often wore ornate belts known as tiradors, for holding the iconic facon knife and rebenque whip; the coins / silver medallion proclaimed and stored his wealth - coins might be added to or taken off to pay his way.   • Condition: The leather belt is stiff, and the button holes are too stiff to unbutton the pockets or buckles. Surface wear and staining. Silver coins have rubbed faces, but year marks are visible on some. Patina and toning to silver and brass buckles.
