Central Asia, Nepal & Tibet, ca. 20th century CE. A lovely pair of beaded necklaces with large sterling silver pendants. One features over 50 amber beads, and silver conical terminal caps with a hook clasp, and a large "ga'u" or "ghau" box pendant - the verso disc is removable for storing protective talismans or paper prayers. The discoidal lid has a repousse dorje motif around the red coral inlay, and the main body is nearly completely covered in coral inlays surrounding a central orange copal bead. The other necklace is strung on cotton cords with 3 and 4 strands of red glass beads that coalesce at the center, a pair of sterling silver ribbed beads, and a large bicone pendant. Both necklaces are wearable and of similar length. Size (strand w/ ghau): 19" L (48.3 cm); (ghau pendant): 3" L x 2.25" W (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm); silver quality: 93% to 94%; total weights: 212 grams

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
