Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. mid-20th century CE. A cast nickel-brass kris handle cast in the form of a standing woman dressed in ornate garb, and the verso of her headdress contains a demonic face. This kind of figural handle is referred to as "togogan" meaning "statue" and this ornate type is associated with Bali and reserved for aristocratic use. The hilt figure is serene and handsome - with a slender body, refined facial features, and waist length hair. The identity of many hilt figures is uncertain, but this may be a goddess such as Dewi Sri, Sita, or another character inspired from the epic tales of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Size: 1.5" W x 6" H (3.8 cm x 15.2 cm)
