Description:

South America, Argentina, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A handsome gaucho leather belt known as a tirador, adorned with silver, nickel, and brass coins and a brass rastra medallion of the Argentinian coat of arms. This large medallion is held in place by 6 chains and is the centerpiece of the belt. The coins are from Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Norwegian Krones- the coins with legible years date from 1858 to 1941 and are riveted with iron tabs or sewn with sinew cords to the surface. The belt has a thick strap and remains of the iron prong buckle; note the two pockets with flaps and a holster with a strap, undoubtedly for holding the gaucho's iconic facon knife and rebenque whip. Size: 38" L x 3.25" W (96.5 cm x 8.3 cm)
