Description:

South America, Paraguay, Uruguay, or Argentina, ca. mid-20th century CE. A yerba mate cup comprised of a hollow gourd accented with nickel-silver and a light silver wash with a bombilla straw. The bombilla is a single piece with a tubular straw attached to a filter head with pierced perforations. The gourd rests on scrolling feet with a foliate repousse and etched base holder to embellish and stabilize the simple gourd vessel. A nickel-silver rim caps the upper shoulder and forms a tapered mouth for the bombilla straw. Size of vessel: 3.25" L x 2" W x 6" H (8.3 cm x 5.1 cm x 15.2 cm); straw: 7.8" L x 0.8" W (19.8 cm x 2 cm)

  • Condition: Gourd is completely loose from the silver base but could easily be reattached with adhesive. Toning and patina on nickel areas. Rubbing and softening to mark on bombilla. Overall good condition!
