East Africa, probably Tanzania, ca. early 20th century CE. A standing, hand-carved figure of a female, with applied black pigment all over the body. The face is abstract, with small eyes and a wide open mouth. Her interesting coiffure is the most detailed part of the figure. These type of figures are sometimes used to represent ancestors, or as ritual objects used for channeling sympathetic magic. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.2" W x 16" H (5.6 cm x 40.6 cm); height on stand: 16.8" (42.7 cm).
