West Africa, Nigeria, probably Yoruba people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A tall wooden ceremonial staff with ridged and segmented patterns carved into the body of the staff, capped by a human figure perched atop two disembodied human heads. In the center of the staff is another group of human heads topped by abstract bull-head-shaped headdresses. The staff was made to be used in a ritual dance. Size: 2" W x 48.5" H (5.1 cm x 123.2 cm)

Provenance: Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
