Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

West Africa, Nigeria, possibly Igbo or Yoruba, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fascinating hand-carved wooden figure of a rooster, depicted here with an elongated, almost serpentine neck and its surface incised with regular lines and u-shapes that give the impression of layered feathers on the head and neck. Crests are attached at the top of the head and the back of the neck. Two tabs project down from the base of the neck and would have allowed this lively carving to be attached to a granary, providing protection from predators. Size: 11.5" W x 13.95" H (29.2 cm x 35.4 cm); 14.75" H (37.5 cm) on included custom stand.
