North America, United States, central/northeastern Arizona, Canyon Diablo, Barringer Crater site, ca. 50,000 years ago. A fabulous pair of meteorite fragments from the Barringer Crater site in Canyon Diablo, Arizona. First is a petite, undamaged piece of the meteorite that exhibits lustrous dark gray hues with areas of iron oxide. Next is a large slab sliced from a sizable fragment of the meteorite which exhibits excellent Widmanstatten patterning (Thomson structures) in the coarse iron octahedrite structure. The Canyon Diablo meteorites are comprised of an astronomic alloy known as kamacite containing approximately 90% to 95% iron and 5% to 10% nickel with traces of other elements. Size of largest (slab): 8.125" W x 6" H (20.6 cm x 15.2 cm); total weight: 204.6 grams for whole piece, and 1088.6 grams for slab.

  • Condition: Slab is a fragment of a larger meteorite; whole piece is intact and very good. Both items have minor nicks and light roughness around peripheries, with some sharp edges around slab. Great patina throughout.
