Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful ring crafted from high-quality 21K gold, featuring an ovoid jasper intaglio depicting a man in profile. The jasper, in a rich vermillion hue, showcases the bust of a young man-possibly the Greek god Hermes or the Roman god Mercury -facing left. The intaglio is set nearly flush into the substantial gold shank, with the shoulders tapering into a rounded band. Size of intaglio: 0.55" L x 0.45" W (1.4 cm x 1.1 cm); band opening: 0.79" Diameter (2 cm); US ring size: 9 /10; gold quality: 87.68% (equivalent to 21K)
