Description:

South America, Uruguay, Montevideo, ca. 19th century CE. A handsome pair of nickel silver stirrups known as estribos de campana or bell stirrups, each comprised of sizeable foot platforms with lustrous flared walls adorned by relief motifs. A pair of slender arms arch upwards from opposite ends of each foot platform, culminating in half circle-shaped buckle straps, while cylindrical cross bar is at the base of each bell, granting further support to the flared walls. The buckle straps of both are marked with the Sun of May - the national emblem of Uruguay and Argentina - as well as the words "GARANTIDO," "BROQUA / SCHOLBERG," and "MONTEVIDEO." Size: 3.8" L x 6.3" W x 8.5" H (9.7 cm x 16 cm x 21.6 cm)
