Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Tlingit or Athabaskan (Athabascan, Athapascan, Athapaskan, Dene) peoples, ca. 19th century CE. A wrought iron knife with a slightly curved blade, and a full tang and pommel shaped like a double volute. The volute has two curled terminals and is an interesting addition to the knife. Wrapped around the handle is a cloth grip. The blade has nice signs of use and age with a dark patina across the surface. Knives like this example were carried as personal hand weapons as well as utilitarian tools which could be bound to the end of a pole for use as a makeshift spear blade. Size: 13" L x 1.25" W (33 cm x 3.2 cm)
