Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely necklace comprised of 108 small carved bone beads and two large bone end-cap beads, all from a human skull, with inlaid silver or multi-colored enamel designs, three gold-hued resin beads, and two dangling miniature religious items: a bell and a vajra. The necklace, known as a mala, traditionally has 108 beads which coincide with the uttered mantra one would recite when running the beads through their fingers. Size: 15.75" L x 10" diameter (40 cm x 25.4 cm).
