Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely brass Amitabha (or Amitayus) Buddha - bodhisattva that reached supreme enlightenment through Buddhist teachings and became a Buddha himself - seated in full lotus position with hands in the dhyana mudra of meditation and holding an ambrosia vase of longevity known as a kalasa. Dressed as a bodhisattva, Amitabha wears lavish robes and many strands of beads and pearls that adorn his chest and arms. An elaborate crown surmounts his head, just above his urna representing his third eye and beneath his flame-like ushnisha. His divinity is further accentuated by the mandorla surrounding his head and the double lotus plinth on which he sits. Size: 3.6" W x 6.1" H (9.1 cm x 15.5 cm)
