Central Asia, Tibet, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A vibrant hand-painted thangka on a cotton cloth with a scene of a Buddha seated upon an elaborate pedestal with 6 figures floating above. The landscape is a colorful and magical setting with billowing clouds and 8 auspicious items around the base and a dragon, and two additional dragons flank the Buddha. On Buddha's right side are 3 priests or enlightened individuals called arhats in red and yellow robes, and to his left are 3 deities or incarnations. He is seated in a lotus position with his hands forming a dharmachakra mudra. Size: 31" L x 21.25" W (78.7 cm x 54 cm)

Provenance: private Bemidji, Minnesota, USA collection, purchased in 2000; ex-Harold Clementson estate, acquired at auction in the early 1980s
