Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lengthy carved wooden coconut grater in the form of an elongated couchant feline figure. The body is painted in lovely earthtone hues of green, orange, beige, gold, and brown, and the head displays almond-shaped eyes, a straight snout, folded ears, and a thin mouth in a slight smile. A long curved metal bar with a serrated circular grater terminal extends from the feline's head, and is secured with two nails. A small felt pad rests underneath each leg. Size: 21.75" L x 4" W (55.2 cm x 10.2 cm).
