Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful, hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of an attractive rabbit. The recumbent rabbit has four legs tucked beneath its body, an ovoid head, and a raised tail on the verso, all decorated with hundreds of incised striations and layers of yellow, blue, red, and pink pigment. The head exhibits a petite nose, floppy ears, and circular eyes, and a serrated grating tool projects from the mouth. A finely-preserved and colorful example from Southeast Asia! Size: 18.6" L x 5.5" W x 8.625" H (47.2 cm x 14 cm x 21.9 cm).

  • Condition: Repair to one front leg and one hind leg, with light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to body and head, with light fading to original pigmentation. Nice earthen deposits and patina throughout. Old inventory label beneath one hind leg.
