Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A skillfully carved wooden coconut grater, depicting a recumbent dragon perched upon its legs, with a fierce visage comprised of bulging eyes, and open mouth revealing intimidating teeth and tongue, flaring nostrils, and a curled frill atop its head. Its body is further embellished with incised scales in spiral and chevron patterns that are further enhanced with vibrant red, green, yellow, black, and white pigments - as well as a raised fiery tail. Emerging from its mouth is a raised iron grating tool with extremely sharp serrations. A fantastic example! Size: 21.75" L x 11.5" H (55.2 cm x 29.2 cm)

  • Condition: Normal surface wear with scuffs/losses to pigment and abraded areas commensurate with age. This said, much of the colorful pigment remains. Iron blade displays expected oxidation commensurate with age. Some felt pads on underside.
