Description:

France or other Continental Europe, ca. 1900. A realistically modeled and painted vintage plaster model of a human brain, showing the lobes, cerebellum, and brain stem; created in detachable sections. Plaster models represented the next stage in teaching about the human body that had begun in the late 1700s with the creation of wax models. Students could now learn about their biological systems from these models rather than a smelly, dissected corpse! Size: 6.5" L x 5.25" W x 4.25" H (16.5 cm x 13.3 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex- James Caswell, Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA
