Description:

Near East and Asia Minor, Persia, Kubachi, ca. 19th century CE. A wonderful pouring pitcher with a stable base, a tapered cylindrical body, a petite strap handle, and a short spout protruding from the side of the thick rim. The exterior surfaces are adorned with densely incised foliate, zoomorphic, and geometric motifs, and the handle depicts a bird head eating a lengthy worm or fish. The sides of the pitcher are decorated with two encircled, low relief portraits, with one figure facing to the right with a flowing coiffure, and the other facing the viewer while donning elaborate vestments. A lovely example replete with sophisticated artistry and meticulous detailing. Size: 3.625" W x 5.375" H (9.2 cm x 13.7 cm).
