Description:

Native American, Northwest Coast, Tlingit, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A near miniature, handmade polychrome woven reed mat, of an oval shape, comprised of tightly woven reeds in tawny orange, slate grey, acorn brown, and natural hues. In general, Tlingit mats performed various functions, as bedding, floor coverings, insulating layers within walls, clothing wraps, bedding in canoes, and covers for cargo. This piece was likely used as a model for a larger piece. A very old and charming example. Size: 9.75" L x 7" W (24.8 cm x 17.8 cm)
