Description:

Native American, Alaska, Inuit, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-made knife or spear head with a wood handle and a slate tip. This tool has a hand drilled perforation near the end of the handle for suspension, and the other end tapers to a neck with a slot for the slate tip to fit into. A sinew cord binds the tip tightly in place. The wood had developed a smooth patina and the sinew has hardened, ensuring that the carefully sharpened slate is permanently attached. This hand tool could be used for a variety of tasks, preparing food by scrapping or cutting, or even used for hunting and fishing. Size: 10.25" L x 1.4" W (26 cm x 3.6 cm)
