Description:

Native American, Western United States, Northern Plains, Crow (Apsaalooke), ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A buckskin or buffalo hide doll with a stuffed cotton cloth with beaded features and decorated with glass seed beads. Attached to the hide scalp is a horsehair coiffure, partially held in place by a thin beaded headband. Playing with and making toys would teach sewing and beading skills to children, as well as cultural clothing and ornamentation that might otherwise be lost to forced assimilation. Size: 10" L x 3.5" W (25.4 cm x 8.9 cm)
