North Africa, Morocco, Safi, ca. 19th century CE. This is a gorgeous wheel-thrown and hand-painted ceramic bowl with a ring base and thick, flaring walls and deep basins. The piece is painted with a light-yellow glaze, then decorated with geometric designs in a dark brown-black glaze on the interior rim and basin. Morocco is renowned for the beautiful pottery that is painted with vibrant motifs and bold patterns, these pieces are used for dining, but also serve as art. This bowl is pierced through the ring base, when not in use, the bowl is hung up to display. Size: 11.45" Diameter x 4.5" H (29.1 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
