Description:

North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. An impressive pottery jar known as a jubbana, presenting curved walls that rise to a circular rim and a tall lid with concave walls, a flat top, and a knob-like handle, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. Adorned in hues of lavender, cyan, cobalt, yellow, and black atop a white glaze ground, the exterior of the elegant vessel is skillfully hand-painted with a complex decorative program comprised of several registers of linear, crisscross, geometric, and phytomorphic designs. Lidded jars like this would have been used to store and serve butter. Size: 6.3" Diameter x 8.5" H (16 cm x 21.6 cm)
