Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Mongolia, 19th century CE. A steel knife, sharpened on one side, with a bone handle and a sheath of brass and shagreen. The knife itself is unadorned and utilitarian, but the handle consists of two pieces of beautiful polished bone that encloses the long steel tang. The handle is topped by brass and held in place by small iron pins. The handle and tang have been drilled through, with a brass ring containing a brass four-pointed star set into the hole. Size of knife: 5.95" L x 0.75" W (15.1 cm x 1.9 cm); size of sheath: 4.25" L x 0.8" W (10.8 cm x 2 cm)

The sheath is comprised of two pieces of brass around a section of shagreen, probably made from horse back leather. The upper part of the sheath has a steel ring for suspension.
