North America, probably Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A set of 2 wooden crucifixes, each with a depiction of Christ on the cross. The first wooden cross features brass end caps for the crucifix as well as a slanted panel reading "INRI," and the cast-iron Christ is covered in skillfully executed polychrome enamel. The larger piece features a cross made from lathe-turned wooden dowels with a looping cord and an iron depiction of Christ crucified on another, more petite cross. Size of larger: 6" W x 13.2" H (15.2 cm x 33.5 cm)

  • Condition: Larger has earthen deposits, a large nail sticking out of the top, desiccation to rope cord, and slight bending to metal components. Second cross has slight bending to brass components as well as some abrasions and color fading to enamel. Both have great patina and detailing.
