Description:

North America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden head of a sizable form depicting a well-groomed man. The gentleman presents with a bar-shaped mustache atop a recessed upper lip, a rectangular goatee on his tapered chin, and cobalt-blue glass hemispheres set into the eye sockets. The masculine countenance features protruding cheeks, a prominent nose, full lips that are slightly parted in the center, cupped ears, and a plateaued forehead, all beneath a black-painted coiffure with lengthy sideburns. The thick, conical neck has an oblong mortise underneath that suggests this was once part of a larger puppet or festival figure. Dark orange-brown pigment imbues the head with a life-like skin tone. Size: 5.625" W x 12.375" H (14.3 cm x 31.4 cm)
