Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial Inspired, ca.19th to early 20th century CE. A wooden cross depicting Christ with disembodied parts within recessed areas along the cross. The wood is painted with additional motifs on the green ground. At the base is a rooster on a pedestal - a symbol of Christ's Passion. The first recessed area contains a glass pane and Christ's legs nailed within. A chalice with a bleeding heart is painted on the wood below Christ's head. Two ladders are painted on each arm, and Christ's arms are nailed to the ends of the beams. At the top is a wooden banner that reads "IN RI" which are the initials written above Christ as decreed by Pontius Pilate. A very dramatic and striking crucifix that is a magnificent piece of religious folk art! Size: 20.75" L x 3.25" W x 35" H (52.7 cm x 8.3 cm x 88.9 cm)
