East Asia, Japan, Edo to Meiji period, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely Kutani ware lidded jar, a beautiful porcelain style that is often grouped with Arita or Imari wares- the bright colors were supposed to provide cheer during the winter, the scenes reflect an idealized version of Edo Japanese culture. This piece can be further categorized into Akae Style, the red and gilt highlights characteristic to this type. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 2" H (11.4 cm x 5.1 cm); gold quality: 40% to 47% (equivalent to 9K+ to 11K+)
