Description:

Near East/Western Asia, ca. 19th century CE. A very fine example of Islamic revival metal ware bowl, commonly referred to as "Cairoware," produced in Egypt and Syria. The bowl is made from brass, with extensive inlays of tin brass across the exterior. The decoration consists of intricate floral motifs and geometric shapes. A crescent shape frames two tughras that are placed on opposite sides. The tughra is an elaborate calligraphic monogram of a stylized form, and each element has symbolic meaning. The base has a lovely pattern with etched lines radiating out from a crescent and star shapes. The intricate details are phenomenal and beautifully accentuate this elegant bowl. Size: 6.875" W x 2.5" H (17.5 cm x 6.4 cm)
