Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. 19th century CE; kris is ca. late 20th century CE. A very rare kris holder, hand-carved from a solid piece of hardwood, depicting a massive phalliform body with a stylized head and a flat base. The body is decorated with several abstract anthropomorphic figures from Balinese mythology, and two figures on the verso bear intriguing zoomorphic-style heads. The urethra of the phallus has recessed, hollow slot into which the lower end of a kris sheath can be inserted for display. Included with the kris holder is a late 20th century iron and wood kris with an intricate blade, a bulbous handle, and a sheath decorated with vivid pigmentation. A gorgeous set from Indonesia! Size (phallus): 7.8" W x 20.25" H (19.8 cm x 51.4 cm); (kris): 7.375" W x 24" H (18.7 cm x 61 cm).
