Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th century CE. A forged-iron kris with a relatively serpentine profile bearing elaborately gilded decorations along the hand guard. The wooden handle features a pair of abstract maskettes above a brass spacer disc, and the finely grained guard protector rests above the blade housing. The brass sheath is first covered in dark red lacquer and then decorated with an openwork gilt brass panel bearing foliage motifs. Size (w/ sheath): 5.6" W x 19.5" H (14.2 cm x 49.5 cm); (blade): 13" L x 2.6" W (33 cm x 6.6 cm)
