Southeast Asia, Philippines, Moro peoples, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A forged-iron sword known as a kampilan with a sturdy wooden handle and a pair of iron suspension loops on one side of the hand guard. The lengthy blade features a sharpened edge along the straight side as well as several petite perforations near the tip for suspending ornaments. The handle exhibits an abstract serpentine form with an incised hand grip above. Size (w/ handle): 39.2" L x 5.4" W (99.6 cm x 13.7 cm); (blade): 29.2" L x 1.75" W (74.2 cm x 4.4 cm)

The Kampilan is the most documented swords by the Spanish Conquistadors during their occupation of the Philippines from 1565 to 1898. They were utilized to fight against the threat of raiders, and later on, to resist against the Spaniards, who attempted to subjugate the Moros under the colonial rule.
