Southern Asia, India, Rajasthan, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful and protective pendant made from a high quality 90% silver, featuring the deities Ganesh and Parvati. The square panel is low relief cast with the seated deities within two rectangular frames. Ganesh is the elephant headed god of good fortune who provides riches, success, and general prosperity. Parvati is his mother and goddess of love, family, and fertility. The exterior rim is slightly raised, and the lower periphery contains integral loops and dangling spherical ornaments. The upper edge has five integral loops for suspension. The pendant is wearable and strung as a necklace with several strands of black cotton threads. Size of pendant: 2.25" L x 1.75" W (5.7 cm x 4.4 cm); strand doubled: 26" L (66 cm); silver quality: 90% on pendant & 80% on dangling spheres; weight: 25 grams
