Description:

Central America, Guatemala, Antigua, 19th century CE. A trio of lovely majolica pottery bowls displaying stylized bird, jaguar, and floral motifs in bright yellow, green, and black color schemes - all hand-painted upon the off-white ground of the interior basins. Each is similar in size, with a ring form foot and broad, flared rims. The red terracotta surface is glazed in a pale - semi opaque white slip then painted with the motifs and fired a second time. Older majolica ware from Guatemala, like these, are lightweight and a thinner quality compared to newer pieces from the later part of the 20th and 21st century. Size: 9" Diameter x 3" H (22.9 cm x 7.6 cm)
