Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A sumptuous and attractive gold ring of minimalist form with a broad shank that curves beneath the ovoid bezel. Set within the ovoid bezel is a hand-carved banded agate stone with a dark brown cameo of a woman wearing a drop-form earring as well as a slender diadem across her curly coiffure. The dignified matron presents with a heavy lidded eye, a gently curved nose, a prominent jawline, and pursed lips which give her a stern and pensive countenance.
