Description:

Western Europe, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A fine mold-made plaster protome depicting a majestic lion head fit with a wooden backing. The protruding leonine countenance presents with sunken eyes bearing a furrowed brow above the extended snout and flared nostrils. • Condition: Metal wire on verso for suspension. Possibly a fragment of a larger piece with losses to upper peripheries. Repair to proper right side with break lines visible. Nick, chips, and abrasions throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice with liberal remaining pigments and lovely patina.
