**Originally Listed At $500**

Western Europe, Italy, 19th century CE. A Grand Tour cast nickel-bronze statuette of a miniature putto or cherub figure kneeling on a flattened base holding a trumpet to his lips. The putto or cherub figure originated during the classical period and they are associated with child sarcophagi; they experienced a revival in the Renaissance period where they became common decorations in both religious and secular artworks. The surface of this piece has a lovely coppery shine and softness from touch. Size: 0.75" W x 1.5" H (1.9 cm x 3.8 cm)

The Grand Tour was a traditional European trip - a rite of passage - primarily enjoyed by the upper-class from about 1660 until the realization of a large-scale rail system in the 1840s. The Grand Tour exposed travelers to music, works of art, as well as architectural landmarks. In addition to this education, The Grand Tour provided an opportunity to purchase special souvenirs that were not available in one's home country- such as this figure!
