East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful strong box or chest made from thick hardwood with iron fittings. The piece rests on a pair of sturdy beams that elevates the box slightly above the ground, and the lid opens on a pair of robust hinges and at the front is a solid lock plate with an articulating latch and rings for securing a pad lock. The interior of the lid is inked with black characters that may have been inventory notes or tally marks. Size: 23" L x 13.5" W x 14" H (58.4 cm x 34.3 cm x 35.6 cm)
